The sudden abduction of Nancy Guthrie from her home in Catalina Foothills, Arizona, has remained one of the most high-profile active investigations of the year. 

The 84-year-old mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie vanished in the middle of the night on February 1, 2026, after a masked and armed intruder tampered with her front door security camera. Because she left behind her required daily medications and investigators discovered her blood at the scene, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI immediately launched a massive kidnapping investigation. 

The trajectory of the case shifted dramatically following the public release of two ransom messages. The initial note demanded millions of dollars in cryptocurrency for her safe return. However, a subsequent message sent to a local news station abruptly claimed she had "perished shortly after she was taken" due to her fragile health and was subsequently "buried in nature". Despite this grim update, federal agents refuse to halt their search without definitive proof, and they continue to canvas her neighborhood looking for fresh surveillance data.
