Christy Lyn Morrison Garrard (sometimes listed as Christy Lyn Garrard or Christy Morrison) was 24 years old when she disappeared from Boaz, Alabama, in August 1998. She was last seen at approximately 9:00 a.m. on August 15, 1998 in the vicinity of Roden Avenue and U.S. Highway 431. She was reportedly with a male friend after spending the previous night at his home. According to the friend, he drove Christy in a white pickup truck to her aunt's house, but Christy never arrived and has never been seen or heard from again.
Christy was born on May 16, 1974, and was the mother of two young children, one daughter, one son. Although she occasionally stayed with friends or relatives, her family said she always kept in touch and typically called every few days. Just two days before she vanished, she spoke with her young son and promised to return the following day so they could go bowling together. When she failed to appear and no one heard from her parents reported her missing.
At the time of her disappearance, Christy was described as a White female standing approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 110 pounds. She had reddish-brown hair, which may have contained blonde highlights, green eyes, pierced ears, and a distinctive Mickey Mouse tattoo on her left shoulder. She was last known to be wearing a white cut-off T-shirt, black shorts, and white tennis shoes.
Investigators conducted extensive searches and followed numerous leads over the years. In January 1999, a teenage boy claimed he knew where Christy had been killed, prompting authorities to search an area near Cross Creek in DeKalb County. The information proved to be false. Later that same year, investigators searched property near Guntersville after receiving another tip, but again found no evidence. In 2011, after a human skull was discovered in Lake Guntersville, investigators compared the remains to Christy's case and requested her dental records. The remains were ultimately not identified as Christy.
Law enforcement has publicly acknowledged that they believe they have ideas about what happened but have never obtained enough evidence to identify a suspect or make an arrest. Over the years, Christy's family has stated they believe she was the victim of homicide, although her body has never been recovered. Despite decades of investigation, no one has been charged in connection with her disappearance.
Christy's disappearance has had a devastating impact on her family. Her parents created a gravesite with a headstone despite having no remains to bury, hoping one day they would be able to bring her home. They have spent years searching for answers while raising one of her children and advocating for the case to remain in the public eye. Reward offers have been made over the years for information leading to the recovery of Christy's remains or the identification of those responsible.
Today, more than 27 years later, Christy Lyn Morrison Garrard remains missing. Her case is classified as an endangered missing person and remains an active, unsolved investigation.
