On November 21, 1978, forty‑year‑old Janet Callies was reported missing from Grand Island, Nebraska. Callies, a white female who stood 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighed approximately 115 pounds, had last been seen six days earlier on November 15, 1978 at the Sundowner, a local bar in Grand Island. At around 8:30 p.m., she made arrangements to leave the bar and pick up her oldest daughter at her apartment so they could go to dinner together. Callies never arrived at the apartment, and she has not been seen or heard from since. Her vehicle, a 1975 Dodge Dart 4-door sedan, beige over red, with NE License Plate: 8C4696 was never located, and no confirmed sightings have been reported in the years following her disappearance.

Janet Callie's case was linked to Henry Lee Lucas, however no evidence ever corroborated Henry Lee Lucas's confession nor was Janet Callie ever found.
