Brookelyn Shae Farthing was eighteen years old when she disappeared from Madison County, Kentucky, on June 22, 2013. She had spent the evening of June 21 with friends in Berea, celebrating the start of summer. As the night went on, she traveled with friends to a residence on Foley Road, a rural area outside the city. Brookelyn intended to return home later, but her ride fell through, leaving her at the house overnight.

In the early morning hours, Brookelyn exchanged text messages with friends and family, including a text stating she was scared and she needed a ride home and was waiting for someone to pick her up. . Around 5:30 a.m., she sent a message saying nevermind, she is going to a party in Rock Castle county. These were the last confirmed communications from her. Sometime later that morning, a fire broke out at the Foley Road residence (only a couch was on fire). When firefighters extinguished the blaze, they found Brookelyn’s personal belongings, including her purse and her cell phone, inside the home. Brookelyn herself was not there, and there were no signs indicating where she might have gone or whether she had left on her own.

The last person Brookelyn was with, Joseph Hensley, says he left his house around 7:00 a.m. to tend to horses, saying Brookelyn was alive and sitting on his couch smoking a cigarette when he walked out. When he returned, the house was on fire, and Brookelyn was gone. Her cowboy boots, purse, and some clothing were found at the house, but her phone was missing. Investigators determined the fire started on the couch,  the same place Hensley said she had been sitting, and ruled the fire suspicious.

Hensley has not been charged and has not been formally named a suspect.

Search teams combed the surrounding fields, wooded areas, and waterways. Investigators interviewed witnesses, reviewed phone records, and followed tips from the public. Despite extensive efforts, no verified sightings or physical evidence have ever been found to indicate Brookelyn’s whereabouts after the fire. The FBI later joined the investigation, and the case remains open.

Brookelyn was described as 5 feet 1 inch tall and approximately 105 pounds, with blonde hair and brown eyes. She had a tattoo of stars on her left foot. Her disappearance has remained one of Madison County’s most challenging missing‑person cases, with authorities continuing to request information from anyone who may have seen or heard anything relevant from the night of June 21 through the morning of June 22, 2013.
