SHAQUANNA “KITA” RUTHERFORD
Shaquanna "Kita" Rutherford was 25 years old when she disappeared from Salisbury, Maryland, in May 2025. She was last seen on May 18, 2025, in the area of the Wawa convenience store at 668 South Salisbury Boulevard (U.S. Route 13 South). Her disappearance is considered especially concerning because she suffers from severe mental health conditions and diabetes, and investigators have stated there are suspicious circumstances surrounding her case.
Kita was initially reported missing after family members were unable to reach her. As the investigation progressed, detectives determined she had last been seen near the Wawa on Route 13 South. Salisbury Police classified her as a critically missing person due to her medical conditions and the circumstances of her disappearance. Authorities have stated they have no evidence that she left voluntarily but have not publicly identified any suspects.
During the investigation, law enforcement conducted numerous interviews, reviewed surveillance footage, and followed up on tips from the public. In August 2025, the Maryland State Police Dive Team searched portions of the Wicomico River, from downtown Salisbury to the Wicomico Yacht Club in Eden, after developing investigative leads. Despite the extensive search, no trace of Kita was found. Police have continued to emphasize that the investigation remains active and that they are still working to fill gaps in the timeline surrounding her disappearance.
At the time she disappeared, Kita was described as a Black female standing approximately 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 280 pounds. She has brown eyes, short brown hair, and a dark complexion. According to investigators, she was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt with blue lettering, green camouflage leggings, dark shoes, and hoop earrings.
Shaquanna "Kita" Rutherford remains missing, and her disappearance continues to be investigated by the Salisbury Police Department. Authorities are urging anyone who was in the area of the Wawa on Route 13 South on or around May 18, 2025, or anyone with information about her whereabouts, to come forward.
