Lonene Ray "Lonnie" Rogers was 29 years old when she disappeared from her home in Hayfield Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, during the early morning hours of January 7, 1981. A devoted mother of two young children, Lonene was profoundly deaf and communicated primarily through American Sign Language. Her disappearance occurred during a severe snowstorm and remains one of Pennsylvania's most well-known long-term missing person cases. 

On the evening before her disappearance, Lonene returned home after work and reportedly argued with her husband, Clinton R. "Bud" Rogers, who was also deaf. According to Bud, the argument ended and he went to bed around 12:45 a.m. When he awoke later, he claimed Lonene was no longer in bed and assumed she had fallen asleep on the couch. By morning, she was gone. He stated that she had left the house during the blizzard after the argument. 

Investigators found numerous aspects of the disappearance suspicious. Lonene left behind nearly everything she would have needed if she had chosen to leave voluntarily, including her purse, hearing aid, eyeglasses, medication, car, car keys, and personal belongings. Most significantly, she also left behind her two young children, something her family has always maintained she would never have done willingly. There has been no activity on her Social Security number, bank accounts, or other records since the day she vanished. 

Family members later revealed that Lonene had been experiencing marital problems and had previously separated from her husband. They believed she intended to leave the marriage permanently and start a new life with her children. Her daughter, Alison Morea Duiker, has spent years advocating for the case, speaking publicly about her mother's disappearance and writing about her family's search for answers. Alison has said she believes her mother was the victim of foul play and has worked to keep the investigation in the public eye. 

A major breakthrough occurred in November 2025 when Pennsylvania authorities charged Clinton R. "Bud" Rogers with criminal homicide and aggravated assault in connection with Lonene's disappearance. According to investigators, he admitted to causing her death. Despite the charges, Lonene's body has never been recovered, and prosecutors continue to pursue the case without the recovery of her remains. 

At the time she disappeared, Lonene was described as a White female standing between 5 feet and 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds. She had sandy brown hair, gray eyes, a freckled complexion, pierced ears, and wore eyeglasses and a hearing aid due to her profound hearing loss. She may have been wearing a navy blue or green pea coat, blue jeans, and high brown boots when she was last seen. 

Although criminal charges have now been filed, investigators continue to seek information that could help locate Lonene's remains and fully resolve the case.
