What We Know
Jakhobi Hale, 21, disappeared on May 16, 2026, after setting out on what was expected to be a short hike in the mountains near Gold Hill outside Darrington, Washington.
According to his family, Hale was last seen at approximately 10:00 a.m. at his grandparents' property on Gold Hill. He told his grandparents that he planned to hike north from the property and expected to return before dark.
He left behind his cellphone and was reportedly carrying only a machete, a granola bar, and two mandarin oranges.
Hale was familiar with the area and had spent years exploring the Gold Hill property and surrounding forests. His family has said he was not equipped for an overnight stay or an extended trip into the backcountry.

Hale was last seen at approximately 10:00 a.m. on May 16, 2026, at his grandparents' property on Gold Hill.
He told his grandparents he intended to hike north and expected to return later that day.

Official Search
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office and Snohomish County Search and Rescue conducted an intensive search of the surrounding area.
Ground teams, K-9 units, drones and other resources were used during the search.
Search Area
Search efforts included rugged terrain surrounding Gold Hill and areas near the Mountain Loop Highway.
Family members have continued efforts to locate areas that may not have been fully searched.
Potential Leads & Important Information
A trail camera reportedly captured an image at approximately 1:50 p.m. on the day Hale disappeared showing two unidentified individuals in the area.
Search dogs reportedly tracked Hale's scent along the old Mountain Loop Highway and later near a nearby cell tower.
The individuals captured in the trail-camera image have not been identified as suspects. They may simply have information that could help investigators establish Hale's movements.
