Jacob Olivier

Jacob Michael Olivier was 23 years old when he disappeared from Homestead, Florida, on August 24, 2011. Although he lived in Spring, Texas, he left home without telling his family where he was going and drove across several states before arriving in South Florida. Investigators later determined that he entered Everglades National Park through the park's main entrance at approximately 1:00 p.m. on August 24. Surveillance footage captured him driving into the park alone.

Three days later, on August 27, park rangers discovered Jacob's dark green 1998 Isuzu Hombre pickup truck abandoned in the Pine Glades Lake parking area. The truck had apparently been sitting in the same location since the day he entered the park. A receipt found inside the vehicle confirmed that he had been in the park on August 24, and investigators determined that his cell phone last connected with a nearby tower at approximately 4:45 p.m. that afternoon. After that, there was no further activity from his phone and no confirmed sightings of Jacob.

Park rangers launched an extensive search involving more than 45 personnel, helicopters, K-9 teams, and ground search crews. Investigators also used cell phone triangulation to narrow the search area, but despite days of searching, no trace of Jacob was found. In September 2011, Everglades National Park officially declared him missing and transitioned the case from an active search-and-rescue operation to an ongoing missing person investigation.

Authorities stated that Jacob had no known friends or relatives in the Homestead area, and his family did not know he had traveled to Florida until they were contacted after his truck was located. Investigators noted that Jacob had struggled with drug use in the past and had completed rehabilitation, but they found no evidence of drugs in his vehicle. A gun case was discovered inside the truck, although no firearm was found. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unexplained, and investigators have never determined what happened after he entered Everglades National Park.
