Huey Edward "Eddie" Hazelrig Jr. was 31 years old when he disappeared from Cleveland, Alabama, on November 3, 1998. Eddie lived with his uncle, Donald Ray Fortson, and the two men often worked together hanging drywall. On the day they disappeared, they finished a job and returned home around 3:30 p.m. Before leaving again, Eddie made a long-distance telephone call. 

Later that afternoon, Eddie and his uncle, Donald Fortson who is also missing, left their home to retrieve a 1957 Chevrolet from an acquaintance. Family members believed they may have been carrying approximately $3,000 in cash. The two men were last seen together at a tire store along U.S. Highway 231. After that sighting, neither man was ever seen or heard from again. 

That evening, authorities found Eddie's gray 1984 Isuzu pickup truck burning along Warrior Valley Road in Etowah County, Alabama. By the time firefighters extinguished the blaze, the truck had been completely destroyed. Investigators determined that no one had been inside the vehicle when it caught fire, and they found no evidence of blood. However, the intense fire destroyed any potential forensic evidence that may have helped determine what happened. 

Over the years, investigators have received information suggesting that Eddie and his uncle may have been victims of foul play, although no one has ever been charged in connection with their disappearances.
